Step 1 Preparation for Treatment
Clear all floor surfaces of loose items such a magazines, toys, and other small
articles. Pick up articles on closet floors as well as under beds and furniture.
Vacuum carpets, rugs, and furniture including under cushions of upholstered furniture, Vacuum wood and tile floors with special attention to grooves and cracks. Pay special attention to wall/floor junctures and all areas frequented by pets. Clean all areas frequented by cats, i. e. table tops, window sills, etc.
Clean garage floors with soap and water if your pet spends time in these areas.
Wash or dispose of all pet bedding
Cover aquariums and turn off air pumps.
Remove all pets during treatment and do not allow them back home until after the treatment dries, usually between 2 and 4 hours.
Maximum effectiveness can be achieved if the lawn is cut prior to treatment.
Don not contact food or food preparation surfaces during treatment.
Expect to see some fleas for up to two weeks after treatment. This time period is known as the "pupal window". The residual activity of the insecticide should overcome the fleas that hatch during this period.
Step 2 Planning Your Treatment and Control
We recommend that you perform a complete treatment occurring all during the same time period for maximum, long-lasting benefit
You will want to do the inside of your home with an immediate knockdown pesticide such as Ultracide or Precor 2000. This will kill all unhatched fleas in the home.
You will want treat you yard and kennels areas as well. This can be done by either a liquid spray or a granular media.
Wash the dog thoroughly and treat the animal with some type of Flea treatment, such as Frontline Plus, Advantix, or Advantage.
Be sure you have a good residual Insect Growth Regulator backup to keep any new hatching fleas from reaching sexual maturity and re-infesting after treatment.
It is vital to treat the lawn and yard in which your pet or pets play because the absence of fleas also creates an absence of tapeworms and hookworms.
